Cleethorpes awarded prestigious blue flag award

North East Lincolnshire Council is very pleased to announce that Cleethorpes has been rewarded for its top notch facilities and high standard of water quality with receiving the International Blue Flag status for 2013.

Additionally, Cleethorpes Central, Cleethorpes Marine Embankment and the area surrounding the Humberston Fitties, have picked up the new Seaside Award (formerly Quality Coast Award).

The Blue Flag Award is given to coastal areas that have achieved the highest quality in water, facilities, safety, environmental education and management and Quality Coast Awards reflect the that the resort has achieved the highest possible standard of beach management.

Councillor Peter Wheatley, portfolio holder for regeneration and environment said: “It is a fantastic achievement for Cleethorpes to have been awarded both Blue Flag and Quality Coast status for 2013. The Blue Flag is a prestigious international award that demonstrates the success and consistently high standards of the resort to tourists and residents alike. Cleethorpes receives these accreditations year-on-year and it’s a tribute to everyone involved in keeping our beaches clean."

Councillor Mick Burnett, deputy leader of the council said: "We are delighted that Cleethorpes has retained the awards for another year. The awards recognise the hard work of those who maintain the beaches and the respect shown by visitors to the resort. We are working really hard with our partners this season to encourage visitors to the resort. And we’re looking forward to an excellent summer season when our residents and visitors, many of whom visit year after year, can once again enjoy the excellent facilities and high standards we have achieved in Cleethorpes.”
