The National Planning Policy Framework was published and came into effect on the 27 March 2012.
It is a key part to the Government's reforms to make the planning system less complex and more accessible and to help to achieve sustainable development.
It sets out the Government's planning policies for England and how these are expected to be applied. Providing a framework within which local communities and their accountable councils can produce their own distinctive local and neighbourhood plans.
