The Floods Directive (Directive 2007/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the assessment and management of flood risks) established a framework for assessing and managing flood risk aimed at reducing the adverse consequences for human health, the environment, cultural heritage and economic activity.

It was transposed into English law by the Flood Risk Regulations 2009 which came into force on 10 December 2009.
